Hi Folks,

Earlier this month, I finished my code for ESP32 and LionChief, which uses the Arduino IDE and code (not Python):

My code here:

https://www.josephrampolla.com/ESP32LionChief.html

You have to modify the code with 3 pieces of info unique to your loco, process in my vid.

The ESP32 has built-in Bluetooth, both classic and low energy, and WiFi.

Hope this helps like-minded hobbyists!

Take care, and a Blessed New Year, Joe.

Very cool Joe. I have to admit I never heard of the Arduino IDE. My familiarity is only with Python.

Hi Matt,

I only worked with Python in my other project with LionChief:

A guy named Dagan Martinez wrote the code and did the "sniffing."  I only added Raspberry Pi GPIO code with Thonny for relays and sensors.  Python formatting is a little frustrating for me.

I learned BASIC Plus back in college in 1977.  I like the PicAxe platform because it used a version of Sinclair BASIC.  But Arduino has so much pre-written bit-bashing done in what they call "libraries," it's much easier!  I believe Arduino uses C++.  I wrote the Arduino code for the ESP32, and although it looks so simple now, it consumed a couple weeks of my time.

Take care, Joe.
