I was working on an old 224 that looked like it hadn't been run in quite some time.

Finally got current flowing, and it runs - but I can hear a shrill vibration.

Looking a little closer - I can see what I think is called the "Second Intermediate Gear Assy" wiggling - looks like its loose.

Greenberg's shows a "Gear Stud" which I suspect the gear mounts on.

What to do? Looks like this is one of the harder fixes...going any further looks tricky!

The stud is staked to the sheet metal frame.  You may be able to access the back side of the stud if you remove the armature.  It is very likely that the stud was installed in the side panel prior to the sides being put together.  If you can't otherwise access the back side of that stud, you may be able to drill a hole in the opposite side that would allow you to get at the back side of the stud.  That should allow you to try and re-stake the stud.  I also have a 224E with the same problem although I have not tried to fix it yet.  Luckily I have a bunch of other engines to run.  At some point I will attack it though.  Good luck with yours.
