Does anyone know what the best way is to remove the motor in a Lionel 624 switcher? I recently acquired one and want to regrease the gear box and clean the armature and brushes, but there is a bracket that holds a light just over the brushplate that is in the way. The bracket is riveted to the main frame, so it is not easy to remove. Ideas?

bend it back
In my experience, the lamp bracket will more or less spring out of the way. If it bends a bit, I just bend it back.
If there is a better way, I am looking forward to reading it.
The motor and truck should be attached to a bracket. Remove the screws from the top and lower the motor assembly.

Thanks everyone! I saw the 2 screws at the top. I think they connect to a pivot bracket which attaches the motor and trucks to the main frame. It just seemed like an odd design, and one I have not seen before on a lionel postwar.
Only the early cast frame diesels are that way. If you want to pull that assembly apart, you can remove the screw from the bottom holding the motor to the truck. Later sheet framed locos just use a zip clip and a spring.
