I am working on a Lionel 665 engine. I installed a new “e” unit and re connected wiring based on Greenberg diagram. When powered up the “e” unit functions but it does transmit commands to them engine. Engine does not function at all. I bench tested engine and it operates. I think it’s in the wiring hook up.Please any help would be appreciated. Thanks….

Where did you get the “ new” e unit from? ….some new e unit drums have a little bit of plastic flash that overcoats the copper strips, and that makes it hard for the fingers to make a decent contact. Add to that, some have the paw bent too much, or too little and the cycle doesn’t put the drum all the way on the fingers like it should. Simple test, verify continuity through the drum to the destination, when you do a cycle . Sometimes those reproduction e units ain’t all they are cracked up to be, and I’d much rather rebuild the original one ….

To test the eunit connect the two outside wires on the four finger board (green and black) to a power source.  Then connect the center wire on the four finger board and the only wire on the two finger board ( yellow and yellow or yellow and blue)  to a light bulb. If the eunit is working properly the light bulb will alternate between on and off as the eunit is cycled.
