Lionel Box Cab Electric question...

I picked up a Lionel Box Cab electric the other day. It seems to have a manufacturing variation not mentioned on tandem-associates website. The first photo shows the pilot truck attached to a Box Cabs frame with a retaining ring. The second and third photos show my box cab having a screw and shoulder spacer to attach the pilot truck to the frame. Can anyone elaborate on the subject?
