At least in 3-Rail O.

Rusty

Yes, Rusty, at least in 3-rail O gauge (the main focus of this forum, after all).

As Nicole noted, it's a simple matter of clicking on the "edit post" icon (looks like a sheet of paper with a pencil) in the row of icons at the bottom right side of your post.  You can edit your post to your heart's content, over and over again, if necessary.

Track and Power Page 17.

8 pieces of O31 curve track to a circle, but 15 degrees per section (which is only 120 degrees, or 1/3 of a circle).  A circle is either 8 pieces at 45 degrees per section (obviously correct) or 15 degrees per section, which would be 24 pieces per circle, can't be both.  Typo of 4 becoming a 1.

Present in the Flash content and PDF.  HTML content for O31 curve is fine.

Leaving aside the Daylight/Darkness debate, I see that the cab forward catalog description says that these engines have a flickering firebox and variable ashpan glow. This must be a mistake; something very similar happened with the VL Challengers where the two oil-fired models also had this description.

The 2005 TMCC cab forward had an accurate catalog description so I assume that someone has just carried over part of a generic Lionel steam engine feature text to this catalog. Pity because someone else is going to be disappointed that they can't find these lighting features in their new CF (as happened with the VL Challengers).

You can figure out what the possible dealer margins might be for dealers who do direct orders, by examining the "street pricing" vis à vis MSRP on the Nassau Hobby and Charles Ro websites, for two examples.  It appears to be at least 35-40% on most items, allowing for some profit margin.  This is about what it has recently been for Lionel track and sets, and much greater than it has recently been for high end locos.  Charlie from Nassau commented on this change some weeks ago, without specifying his margins .

Further to my earlier post about the cab forward firebox/ashpan lighting, I see that Lionel's email bulletin about this engine only mentions it having a "glowing ashpan." A while back there was a thread about having a lighting effect to replicate the glow from oil burners on oil fired UP steamers but I'm not aware that (a) this has ever been done in a Lionel engine or (b) that it would be prototypical.

I also think that Eric Siegel once did a Lionel steam engine review in which he demonstrated that the ashpan glow was produced by some form of onboard system that did not depend on either battery or track power.

However I'm not actually expecting to find anything like this in the AC-12 when Lionel releases it!

By posting the online catalogue prior to the printed issue being received from the printers, Lionel are getting free proof-reading from this wonderful forum.

One of the hardest things to do is proof-read you own work.   I would suggest to Lionel that they swear a couple of forumites to secrecy and let them proof the next set of catalogs.  Some of the errors are subtle (at least to me).  See...Van Sweringan"; the correct spelling is Van Sweringen  But some are pretty glaring........reversed prices on 86' box cars for instance.

All Lionel would need to do is have the proof readers sign a NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement).  Keeping things internal to Lionel gives them more control against leaking information.  "Swearing to secrecy" has no legal teeth unlike a good NDA.

It's probably safe to say that nobody here need rush to apply.  You can be quite certain that Lionel is not going to turn over any catalog proofreading phase to one or more toy train enthusiasts, NDA or otherwise.  Although some may indeed possess a good bit of prototype or product knowledge (usually restricted to limited/specific areas of interest), very few actually have the skills, training, and prior experience working with the written word to perform a proper and thorough proofing job.

Alan, everybody knows that typos only appear after proofed copy and art is sent to the printer, or so it seems. Therefore, and certainly in my case, I would place blame entirely with the printer. It's important to know where to place blame, isn't it? Originally Posted by Allan Miller:

"Now your banned!"

"I tend to use the 'Edit post' feature quite a bit to correct tie pose."

Seems to me there's a big difference between casual communication in a forum such as this and formal communication in a format such as a manufacturer's annual catalog.

And guys.....my forumite proof-reader comment was tough-in-cheek.  I guess I should have added a smiley!

You'd be surprised how lightly regarded NDAs can be, even in the manufacturing and engineering industries.  I've heard straight from two executives' mouths years ago in the semiconductor industry that NDAs "aren't worth the paper they're printed on." or "just feel good documents" that really aren't taken as seriously as they're intended to be.

As I posted in the O27 topic, I wonder if the designation of min. radius of O31 is a misprint? Some sets like the CP FT, both Scouts, and Polar Express were listed as O27 last year. Others do not line up with the listings in the product database, like the B&M set (which I would LOVE to get), says O31 in the catalog, but O27 (thankfully) in the database. Also, I find it hard to believe that a hand car and the new docksider sets need O31 curves as well. An email has been sent to Lionel and I can report back if you want.

Sidenote, my 027 layout is 3'x3' and there is no way I can upgrade the curves, someday when I own my own house I'll have something with O270 curves, but not now.
