Lionel Diecast UP 7454 Flag Unit - Added to the fleet!

Happy Weekend, Everyone,

 

Just wanted to share a quick video with you all.  I finally got my hands on an all diecast Lionel ES44AC.

I purchased the unit from a private collector who had relegated her to a shelf-queen.  I couldn't be any happier with the purchase, these truly are very special pieces.  

 

I understand these units are quite costly in terms of MSRP, but would love to see Lionel re-introduce them down the road (would be a big fan of an all-diecast SD70ACe and/or SD40).

Thanks, PTC.  Excellent point, it completely escaped my mind that Lionel's version of the Veranda was all die cast!

Certainly will!! The plastic units are very nice as well, but they are not in the same league as the die-cast versions.  I plunked down a pretty penny for mine, but would certainly pull the trigger on another if the right opportunity arose.  Spectacular engines all around.

There's something about the rough satin finish on those diecast units that projects high end... The big drawback to those units is the weight with delicate handrails that will snap off if you're not careful when lifting the engine.

Although I must say, looking over the PRR ABS unit at my LHS recently, it sure has a great look about it too. 

IMO, Lionel went out of their way to make the finish as close as possible. 

Bottom line, I have the diecast BNSF but I'm not sure it's worth paying up for more diecast engines when the ABS units look that good. 

BTW, are you running legacy? That horn sounded very TMCC one dimension..

Hi Joe,

 

I am running a Legacy environment.  I was not really pulling back on the train horn lever (thus inducing the quillable horn on the locomotive). 

 

The plastic units are very nice as well, I have two (NS and Interstate).
