Lionel Drayfuss 6-28084 Cruise Commander M

Pin one of the J4 is the serial input data, that goes to pin 24 of the R2LC, usually a blue wire.  I usually remove the green wire from pin 2 of that connector as I've never had occasion to use it, that's the serial data out from the CC-M.

The SD-80 instructions on the ERR website will likely point you in the right direction.  These are the instructions I was advised to use when converting my Southern Mountain (6-28057) with Odyssey.

I take it the serial data out goes directly from the existing mother board to the wireless tether and Railsounds in the tender. So the green wire on pin 2 of J4 would not be needed.

You did get the CC-M for Steam, right?  They still have some that won't drive the wireless tether properly, so you have to make sure you get the one with the updated circuit.

For my Southern they recommended the Diesel board.  I took a picture of the original configuration and sent it to them per their request.

Yes, made sure I told Ken the loco number and that it had a wireless tether.

That's certainly odd, as the older boards wouldn't work with the wireless tether properly.  Been there, done that, had to build the little transistor booster to get it working.  Of course, why it affects the serial stream has always been a bit of a mystery.  It's always been difficult to get technical details of issues like this from Lionel.

Pay attention to the section that talks about the Ground wire on the 10 pin.  Lionel ODY ground reference is Chassis.  ERR Cruise is NOT.  If you have any ground reference from the original harness and plug it in to the Cruise M, you will destroy the board.  Usually that is Diesels, but you need to confirm.   G

Can confirm that the Dreyfuss does not have the 10 pin chassis ground reference.

Works great. Original reason for upgrade was the loco would not reverse. Now that's fixed and no more Ody lurch as a side benefit.

Youngest is over the moon as its actually his loco.
