I have an early Lionel 258 with the orange strip. What can I use for Flags? will the Flags from the 260 or 261 fit?

Lionel's 1935 "Replacement Part List" has the P/N 390-76 Flag (White), set of 2, for the following: "0" gauge Steam outline — 257, 258, 259, 259E, 255E, 260E, 261, 262, 261E, 262E; "0" gauge outline Electric — All; Std. Ga. all steam outline also used P/N 390-76. Electric outline had four flags P/N 381-93.

BTW the 258 used the same flag holder part (253-2) as all the "0" gauge electrics.

All Prewar steam engines used the same flag. I have never seen 2 different numbers for steam. Electric engine flags have a thinner pole. I can say I have ever seen a 259/259E with flags, though.

Chuck,

Read my comments above, there was only one sized flag that was packaged as two units (P/N 390-76) or four units (P/N 381-93).
