Lionel FA dangling LED

No the back up light is in the shell next to the door. The only thing I can come up with is the lighting for the crew to walk between units

Both units are like this?

Mine also have the dangling lights.

They all have a light in the vestibule like that. I have several from multiple runs. I remove them. Just open up the shell, find the plug and pull it out. I suspect there must be a light fixture above the door on the real thing, but they cant be bothered to use an 0402 or 0603 chip LED embedded in the top of the doorway to do the job.
