Lionel first run sp 2-8-8-4 with err cruise added problem

Usually when an engine doesn't move at speed step one it means the resistance in the drive train is greater than normal. If this has only one motor it has double the drive train component friction that the motor has to overcome. Removing the shell and turning the flywheel by hand will give an indication if there is any binding.

Have you programed the cruise board for large motor and also 100 step mode? This is not the same as selecting R100 on the Cab2 but a series of keystrokes on the handheld.

yep in 100 strp mode and big motor.  the engine will run slow without load and is smooth, and there is no drag on the drive train.  when pulling 12 18 inch mth passenger cars it needs more boost and speed step 3 to start it.

That sounds normal.
