Hi all, I’m looking for a power truck for the LTI-era SD9/SD18 units with the vertical can motor.  For some reason I can’t come up with a part number, I found the truck with motor on the auction site for $94, but I don’t need the motor, coupler etc. I only need the truck itself with wheels and gears.

If anyone has a source I’d appreciate it, thanks!  My email is in my profile.

Edit- found the part number, 610-8806-101.  Doesn’t seem to be available anywhere though.

Yeah, the whole truck has been NLA for years. Maybe if you elaborate on the exact issue (pictures can help!), the great folks here can help you figure out a viable path forward. Obviously, you have the parts breakdown from above and so you may be able to repair the truck vs seek total replacement.

That’s a bit of a bummer.  I’ll try to get the engine out this weekend and get some pics and/or a better description of the issue- in a nutshell, it has a hitch/bind when running, worse in reverse than forward but it’s always there.  It seems like either one of the geared wheels, or one of the gears itself, has some run-out and causes a bind every revolution.

Loco is a Montana Rail Link SD9, 6-18824.

It isn't uncommon for the plastic gear to fracture as discussed here, but pictures/better description could help diagnose your specific issue:

I believe the gear is 610-8806-576, or that this gear should atleast suffice. They are not available from Lionel proper, but @Harry Henning of Henning's Trains, a forum sponsor, has it in brass: https://hennings-trains.shopli...-brass-13647485.html

You will want a wheel puller and you will need to get crafty with a cobbled backing plate (I've been known to use a small socket) to position the gear on the axle. You can use a vice to gently press the wheels back onto the axle (although a proper press may be preferred).

So, I got the engine out today, placed it upside down in the box and put power to it to see what was going on.  It appears that all three axles on the power truck are bent- I can see the “wobble” which is perfectly timed with the hitch/bind.  I bought this used and I’m thinking it was probably dropped at some point?  Regardless, I’m guessing it needs 3 new axles.  I don’t have a puller or a press so I might have to send out the truck to get it repaired.
