So for those of you that just bought your very first Lionel VisionLine  "Special -Run Lionel Big Boy, which "Flavor" did you get? Back in October when Lionel announced plans to make a 2023 Vision Line Big Boy I was ecstatic. That's right, a brand new, fresh out of the box behemoth with the latest and greatest technology and quite possibly the most abundant smoke creator the brand has ever sold for the same price as a secondary market one. So why the post about special runs? I bought the typical 4014 Coal depleting version expecting this was the pinnacle, my Everest in train collecting, there's nothing bigger or better ........and then 2 weeks ago my world was shaken up. What in the world could be better than a Lionel Big Boy?" Why 2 Big Boys, of course!  If you bought a a Special Run Big Boy, which one did you go with...share your pictures. Last week I stumbled across this video and decided I must have it. Credit for the video and screenshots goes to Gizmo Trains. The color and detail was mesmerizing and I couldn't take my eyes off it. There were a few left and I was able to score one. Was there a Special Run Big Boy that you felt the same way about? I have waited years until I could attain something so cool, and yes expensive. But this is the year I blew my budget out for trains. I told myself...no more Pre-Orders for a while...a long, long while!!!!                                                   https://youtu.be/IMVlU7KRZ1o?si=VrssIenutMZ59V6Q

I just received the 4013 version from Brady's trains. Best looking Big Boy to date imo. The smoke box and fire box are painted in a graphite grey color, silver polished cylinder heads and wheel caps, smoke deflectors, and the grey stripe down the cab and tender. And the black finish looks slightly better to me than the standard versions.

This was the first time I bought a vision line model that wasn’t preowned. I went with the #4024 Greyhound. I would have liked to have gotten the Rio Grande custom run if I had the opportunity to get a second model. I think it would’ve been neat to run with the UP Heritage diesel. However, I really wanted the model that matched both my greyhound challenger and #844 with smoke deflectors.

lesson learned, though. Maybe next time I should consider custom runs before those offered in the catalog.

Hi All,

Timely post topic. Today I opened, programmed, and ran my new Vision Big Boy 4014 (oil version, gloss black), along with a Vision UP Aux Tender (black) from year or two ago.

What a mammoth engine, heavy, ad a strong smoker with double stacks. Has the chalk “Big Boy” on front. My grandson (who draws me pictures of Big Boys) will live this - his 8th birthday is tomorrow.

I went for the oil version partly drawn by the tender with silver truck caps. The gloss black I will get used to, but flat black would have been picked if 4014 came that way.

That’s one impressive model!
