That set is, I think,  their traditional utility/telephone poles - about ten or twelve poles for about $8.  I'd space them out so they look good and just eyeball it: what looks best is best.  

 

Lionel makes one or two additional sets of scale utility poles that cost around $30 - $35 for a set of six ($60 range for them if they have operating street lights attached), which I would space at scale or near scale distances apart.  That would be about 100 feet in "city areas" and about 200 feet apart in more rural settings.  Note however that poles are often placed closer together if there is a reason to, such as turning a corner, etc.
