Hi guys, I could use a little knowledge here. The engine is from the 30218 set. I put a new PCB in the unit, but I still don't have sound, the engine moves now. I looked at the Lionel break down, and I see PCB/I.R. trigger. Can you tell me what it does, and will this affect the sound? I could use any help offered. The board came from the Lionel site.  I tested the tender and it seems to be working or the speaker is working. At a loss here I don't know where to look from here. Thank you for all your help, John.

The PCB/I.R. trigger detects movement inside loco to send a chuff signal.  If you were only missing chuff sound this might be where to look.  I suspect you have no sound but believe your speaker in the tender is operational.  I would look into your drawbar.  There are reports of failures in this area.  Here is a link to one:

Check the sound switch in the back of the cab. Check continuity where the wires are soldered on the switch. move the switch make sure continuity goes away. I think if you pull the switch harness plug out of the PCB. The default will be sound. If you remove the plug, hook the tender up and pull the speaker plug and check continuity through the plug. Should be 8 ohms, same as your speaker. The “IR” is the chuff switch located up by the smoke unit. It is operated by a cam on the axle of the front wheel that operates a lever.
