The post-war style GG1 was one of Lionel's most popular engines. While not built to scale, it had a style and charisma all its own.
All but the last five of these GG1s had conventional operation. The 1996 #4907 (6-18313) had TMCC for the first time, but no Odyssey speed control or sounds.
The other 1996 release, #2332 (6-18314) had TMCC and sounds, but no Odyssey.
No. 2340 (6-18326) was released in 2000 as part of the Congressional set, and also has TMCC and sound, but no Odyssey.
The last of the early style GG1s, another #2332 (6-18343) was released in 2301.  It was painted black, and also lacked the Odyssey speed control.
I have three pre-TMCC GG1s, as well as three of the TMCC versions. I have to play with the throttles on my transformer as they go around my layout. As we all know, having feeders every few feet would eliminate that issue.
I just wish Lionel would come out with a full-blown Legacy/Odyssey version of the early GG1.
Subsequent GG1s were made to scale, making them much larger, and impossible to run on curves less than 072. They were also quite expensive. I have a TMCC model, which sits on a siding on my layout since my minimum curves are 048.  My Black #2332 (6-18343) is not in the group picture.

I have these two - 2360 PWC ( TMCC and sounds ) and 2340 Conventional Classic

Have not run the 2360 yet but I did try the 2340 and it runs remarkably well / smooth for two big  AC motors - I was concerned because I thought I read some of the CC GG-1’s were not running that well ???
