Hello friends,

I need some help to solve this riddle.  My engine ran fine forwards and backwards up until yesterday.  Now it hardly goes forward, but still runs fine in reverse.  Wheels, gears, and linkage turn fine when manually turned by hand.  Could not find any mechanical binding.

Here's what I have tried so far:

Checked the E-unit cleaned the contacts.

Cleaned the armature brush plate with a Q-tip short of disassembling the whole motor.

Added small drop of oil at the armature axle points and gears.

Thanks for any advice.

Lots 'o' trains here

Engine runs again!  I did a thorough cleaning of the brush plate (communtator) and brushes.   Spring tension is good.

E-Unit was OK.

Put oil (sparingly) on the main driver axles and gears.

Also, put a bridge rectifier just before the motor to drop the voltage by 1.2 volts, thus giving more voltage to the smoke unit.    Engine smokes much better now.    (I also did this for my AF 312 engine with great results.)

Thanks for your suggestions!
