sent this back to lionel because when it arrived the magnets that hold the cover over the control panel were missing & the cover was moving around in the box scratching up the paint on this b unit. It was nice of them to replace the shell, but this was an added bonus

From the look of the dents in the Styrofoam it appears to have been knocked around in shipping. The most important aspect of shipping is to make sure the item cannot move. Sometimes the Styrofoam is not enough, so I'll stick tissue or whatever to keep it from shifting. I cannot say that if someone were shipping it back to me that they would take that precaution.
You're best bet is to glue the hoses back on yourself.
