From the old layout, circa 2000......

These are the corners of my 12'-by-8' layout completed in 2004. With an O-72 outside loop, the corners are large enough to fill them with structures and scenery.

My round corners on the 9' high shelf railroad

(former] at the mountain cottage.

Here are two of them, both with 096 to 0112 curves, one with access behind Atlantic Ice and Cold Storage, one without as I can reach in there if I stand on a short stepladder...

When we use larger radius track - it leaves large corner space for great things.

Thanks Dewey. I'm not sure what I would put in them if they were square. They would be very hard to reach. I do lose a square foot or two on each, by rounding, but space really isn't my problem.

Everyone else is doing some really great looking stuff with their corners.

Modular layout scenery. Version #1, the water scene.  I still liked it, but many including club members "didn't get it".

Version #2, Pulverized coal power plant and generating station. As seen in an OGR article.

Lionel unloading shed with a coal dump chute.

Fly ash silo for loading covered hoppers. Love those Menards buildings!

Korber silo pressed into use as the coal bunker.

  You should have went right a little further back to take a short cut thru the Ol' Snowy Valley tunnel to double back,, it's only slightly longer that way, make a right 

The valley is all of four corners total, and that's only because of the tracks.

That's a whole lot of great work using and camouflaging those odd little spaces created when we curves where two straight object; walls or table edges, come together.  I've got some new ideas seeing other peoples use of flats and just some vehicles or trackside accessories to make it look like much larger scenes are in a smaller area.

I was searching for the "dressing up corners" thread using the search function (which stinks, BTW) and found this older thread that was started by none other than Dewey Trogdon - one of the nicest and most helpful model railroaders I've ever known. I wish he was still with us, though there's some comfort with the faith that he is with God now. There's great pictures and ideas in this thread, so I used this thread to continue the discussion on "corners."

Here's how I addressed a corner on my former layout - essentially, I built-up multiple levels, thus concealing that there was a corner . I never got to the point of adding the 2nd backdrop to the wall on right-hand side. I am still working on my current layout addressing a re-build of the corners using structures.

That's for resurrecting this thread Paul - yes indeed, Dewey was a fine gentleman. Here's the North Coast Ltd heading into a corner of Bob's under construction layout. This corner will be transitioned using a viaduct or perhaps a rock wall to carry the upper line around. K-Line F units with Weaver 21" aluminum cars. Beautiful set!
