Harry, how much? and do you have a photo and perhaps a link to buy or product number to order off your websight. I recently got mine out the other day and modified the grabbers and now it works flawlessly. all thats is left is to upgrade the plastic gears. been meaning to do this mod for a long time. just now getting around to it.

Question, also if metal gears were installed could you lift heavier scale size containers? would anybody here know? maybe the string also would have a part in the weight issue. not sure.

Whenever I see brass and gear in the same sentence I get uneasy.  Brass is probably the worst possible material for gears.

Good bronze alloy gears will last hundreds of times longer than brass, and engineering plastic, properly pre-aged before hobbing, is even better.

Early Sunset steamers came with brass axle gears.  They would fail in about three hours.  Mort had some replacements hobbed up in bronze, and it solved the problem.

This application may be unique. The small plastic gear that this brass one replaces has a large inside diameter relative to the overall diameter. The gear splits too easily because there is not enough material between the shaft opening and the bottom (valley?) of the teeth.

Having replaced and repaired this plastic gear numerous times, I am comfortable that this brass set will last much, much longer.

This is great news! My Mi-Jack is all original plastic gears.

Would I need to purchase each one of the line items above to convert it to the more robust gearing? Or are some of the items listed just parts that make up item #2741-105/325?

Thanks!

Harry,

I’m still about confused. All, of the brass parts listed are in the assembly? The 6sp is not part of the assembly?

No, there were no instructions included.  Maybe someone could post a 'how to' on the Mi-jack.

Sorry, but we sold out of all pieces for now. The forum response for the gears was far beyond my expectations.  I have ordered a larger shipment this time. Should probably be about 2 weeks.   Who says "ADVERTISING DOSEN'T PAY" ..

Thank you all for your support.  Harry

guys, just google lionel mi-jac crane and there is a post in the photos section that gives color photos of the disassembly of the crane part that needs the new gears. it does not look hard at all to do. 15min tops if  carefull with the strings that are used to move the crane up and down. just press that photo and the artical will come up. I would link it here but not sure how sorry.
