So the batman set has really caught my eye.  I am building a conventional loop on my layout for my Lionel Metro North conventional set.  It will be powered by the CW-80.  To run the LionChief Plus batman set on this track, would I have to disconnect the CW-80 and run with the LionChief remote?  I hope I don't have to swap out track pieces when I change the trains to run.  If this is the case, I may just buy the Batman add-on cars and run them on the Metro North line.

Rick

You should be able to operate a LionChief or LionChief Plus engine with a CW80 as long as the train doesn't draw more of an electrical load than the transformer can provide.

To operate using the LionChief or LionChief Plus remote, set the CW80 up near max in the range of 18 Volts, and operate the engine with the remote. You won't be able to run any conventional engines at the same time unless you want them to hit warp speed.

For a LionChief Plus engine, you can use a switch on the engine to operate in conventional mode and control the speed of the engine using the handles on the CW80. But, you lose some of the features accessible from the remote.

Edit to add: I just looked up the Batman set and it is a regular LionChief set, not a LionChief Plus, so it does not have the switch on the engine to operate in conventional mode. You can power the track with the CW-80 transformer, but the engine needs to be controlled with the remote.

I think I will be seriously looking at picking up this set. I just hope it has British sounds!

From the videos I have seen of other LionChief sets the sounds appear to easier to customise so maybe we have a chance of the correct Hall sound set.

Nick, as the model is 'Albert Hall', perhaps it should be able to blast out a rendition of  'Land of hope and glory' instead of 'All aboard...'?

3)Albert Hall European Set

4)Western Union set

5)All the major league baseball teams have a boxcar.

6)Batman subway set.

There are a lot of great things in here. I am blown away with this catalog.

They did a nice job with both catalogs, including the ready-to-run.  I am hopeful that the firm can start to deliver the product now.  Fingers crossed but this is a good step.

Rick

You're welcome. I don't actually have a LionChief set or engine, but what from what I have read from Lionel literature and on the forum, I think I gave you good info. Here are a couple of topics on the forum that provide more information. The additional features available on the remote refers to the LionChief Plus engines.

Proceed with caution.  I'll be getting the Pocono set but it is $479 in RTR and $399 in the Signature catalog.  To me $399 is better.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip.

Proceeding with caution.

Years ago Lionel made 2 baseball box cars with all the teams logos on the sides of the car. That was when you only had to divisons in each League. They put the eastern division on one side and the western division on the other. Lionel wanted to make the same for the NFL, but the NFL would not license them to do so. Hopeful times have changed and the NFL will permit it.

I suspect the licensing agreement is about to run out and isn't going to be renewed.  Notice there were no new MLB sets...
