after a bit of a break i am working on the powered A unit now.  I have decided to remove the trucks and dissemble but the motors and wiring are pretty good so they will only get a quick cleaning.  Brushes look good and both motors are smooth runners.  I also hate the idea of unsoldering all those connections so i have done as few as possible.

here is the front powered truck.  Almost no grease in there, but the brass gears look good.  Note the ball bearing in each axle block. I thought these might fall out but they seem to be almost pressed in.  All 4 were like that, just make sure they are there so the drive axle cant move back and forth.  Also the rear truck axle bushing is under the riveted coupler!  I left that in place. I gave them a good cleaning in kerosene and added fresh red and tacky.  Should be good for another 50 years.  The battery holder for the horn was never used so it is perfect.  I lucked out on this, my first time dong F3s, it really is in very good condition to start with.  More later.
