Lionel shipping cartons worth anything?

Keep.

Don't throw nothing away.

You can always find space for them.

Sometimes the box is worth more then the item is.

Shipping box is mainly valuable for protecting the real box.  I am not aware of any run on modern era "mint" shipping cartons.

Ah, Ok I understand now.

Burn 'em.  Or save them if you ever need to move.

You can reuse them. Or even if you sell an item you can reuse to ship.

Your call.

If Lionel remains collectible over the years,  then the shipping cartons will become valuable.  As for now they probably don't have any value.

All I know is that today's shipping cartons are made MUCH cheaper than those from 10-20 years ago.  Surprise, surprise. 

I had forgotten how well-made the shipping cartons were from years ago, until I started selling older items and shipped them in their original shipping boxes.  Comparing those from yesterday vs. today?  No comparison whatsoever!  

Just another sign of corners being cut along the way.

That would certainly add to the overall desire of a collector or even just a train enthusiast.

No doubt it may look or sound corny, but when you see people on various site selling just the empty box's well then.

Plus I always remember watching the antique road show where the person would say because you have the original box it worth even much more.  It lends itself to authentication.

As a practice, I keep all of the boxes, shipping included. It doesn't take up any more space as the equipment box nestles into the shipping box.

There may b a time when you want to sell or otherwise dispose of equipment and it just makes good sense to have both boxes.

I break them down flat, mark them and stack them away in case I ever need them. Especially close are ones for engines in case of repairs, upgrade whatever. I'm lucky to have the space.

I just stick the lionel box back in the shipper .. It's not like your gonna break down the lionel box.
