Lionel swing bridge 6-24111?

One issue I've had with Lionel's bridges is too low clearance. Their new Fastrack extended truss bridge I bought, I had to remove the bottom sections of the cross trusses to gain clearance to be safe.

It might work. The height of the openings at each end is a little over 5 inches. This compares with about 4-1/4 inches on the later model tinplate lift bridge (not the mammoth plastic version from 1990).

But these bridges were not made for cars requiring really high clearance - still less engines with pantographs!

You need to allow some leeway as the "girders" at each end are angled into an inverted "V" shape and really wide as well as tall cars can catch them. But 5" should be enough for anything bar a giraffe car!

Actually I can see that the Big Boy with the optional smoke deflector (for want of a better word) might fall into that category. What I know for sure is that My JLC GG1 won’t run through this bridge (or the lift bridge) with the pantographs up - but that’s pretty obvious! An ordinary diesel will. I don’t have any intermodal cars but I have seen some of them them running over the swing bridge successfully.
