There cars have been quite nice lately to me.
In the 1st drawing of the auto car, the claws seem to be body mounted. That would be interesting to see. I would be interested in getting them. I'm quite fond of the Atlas and even the MTH ones. They eat up some serious storage track space though. I'll have to keep them on the main and moving!

I really love the 89' autorack! Let's hope it turns out to be worth 2R'ing as the the MTH isn't worth converting in my opinion.

Catalog images are terrible and Lionel isn't exactly known to follow the prototype all that well, so it will be interesting to see how these measure up when they are actually in our hands to measure and compare. They've done well on some of their other Standard O freight cars, so these may be nice new additions. They also have new tooling for GP35s, but both MTH and AtlasO have done those to death.

Also listed in the catalog were A TON of paint schemes for the little speeders and trackmobiles that some of you have already 2Red. Interesting catalog to comb through looking for potential 2R fodder.
I've got a watchful eye on the 89' auto racks.
Wow! an 89' autorack. This is certainly interesting. I'll be keeping an eye on this hoping that they're fully scale. I have several of the OMI models from the early 80's, and while quite nice, they're hard to find and a bit pricy. Thanks for posting David.

I noticed the rack on the lioel version is an older 1980's design while the MTH autorack is a later 1980's to current design. the giveaway is the bulge by ladders at the car ends

Definitely looks promising for some new freight car styles from Lionel. If only Atlas would release new body styles that people are asking for?

Those racks are part of the CSX motor express set. You may get lucky and find one who will do a set breakup.
Only the Conrail and the CN are separate sale items.
As far as new tooling, the double door PRR round roof boxcars -- which 3rd Rail had planned to do and dropped when it became apparent Lionel was gonna do 'em -- should have potential if the cars are up to the level of their PS-1s.

BTW, I see in the blow up of the conril unit, Lionel labeled the TTX flat an incorrect DTTX[reserved for double stack cars].
For over $100.00 street price, they better get the TTX paint designations correct!
I e-mailed them that the TTX designations are:
TTGX for bi- Level cars and
ETTX for Tri-Level cars
I know there are more designations throughout the decades but we need to use the KIS principle to get it right!
Yeah, tell me about it. I'm hoping they do take our feedback and provide the correct reporting marks on those cars. Should they not, I will re-letter them.

My question about the auto racks is, as they are making automobiles to put inside, are the side panels going to have the [prototype] holes so you can see the automobiles inside?
The ends in the artists concepts are a little ambiguous as to whether the end doors are the earlier hinged type or the later sliding type.
