Locomotive traction bands

Once a tire comes off, it's somewhat pointless to attempt to re-use it.

It would help if you also included the make and exact model of the locomotive in question.

Just replace them. They are not "good" if they are coming off.

They are stretch fit on, over time they lose the tension, at that point they are done.

It's the MTH Berkshire 2-8-4 Nickel Plate Road. I'm going to replace the bands.

Yep, we usually need to know if it's Premier or Railking.

MTH Parts & Sales has the tires, look them up on this Traction Tire Chart.

DE0000025 for the Premier or Railking Berkshire as at it turns out, they use the same tire.

I believe it is Premier. I can't find a model # on packaging or instructions.

This is quite an old engine, and I doubt they’ve retained their elasticity, but have you looked in the styrofoam cradle for replacement tires? Every new engine is shipped with replacement tires in a hole in the styrofoam cradle.

This is so helpful guys. I did look in the packaging, I'll look again, but the first time I didn't find any extra tires. I'll also look on the internet and see what I may find. But now I know a lot more than I did before.

I bought the locomotive new/used in all it's original packaging during the pandemic - and that's when I built the railroad in my studio . . . anyway, extra info not really needed but you are all train lovers so . . . it all began when I found about ten trashed passenger cars built from kits, c. 1950's, in the trash at an estate sale. Restored them all, and THEN of course, had to buy an engine to pull them.

I get it, we all started somewhere but I highly suggest you explore all the below resources and use them to your best advantage. Owning MTH is great, but you have to use the number system and also- know about the 2 main websites- https://mthtrains.com/ and https://www.mthpartsandsales.com/

#1 Know the MTH product number system. Premier starts with 20-xxxxx-x, and Railking is 30-xxxxx-x. You can then use that number to find ALL kinds of information on your engine.

Here's some pics of before and after restoration on a couple of cars. The Pennsylvania caboose I didn't touch - came as you see it.
