As someone reminded me a few years ago when I complained about an MTH engine they did in a non prototype paint scheme for the CB&Q, "It's a TOY hobby, not a museum reproduction."

I agree, this is anything but good looking - and will not be on my wish list.

However, I am sure that a half dozen guys and gals will fall in love with it and find a way to put it in a display case, because in my opinion, that's where it should be.

It looks like it was taken off the site. I'm pretty sure it's fake judging by the sku # and ridiculousness of the paint

What's wrong with the sku # ?  Looks legit to me.

Unless Lionel recently changed their naming system for the 2019 line, it's always been "6-#####." It very well may be legitimate, but since they took down all their 2019 stuff off the site, I can't verify whether or not the rest of the new products have a different sku system as well. I hadn't looked at the thread about the new catalog until just now, but it looks like it probably is real. While I find it extremely unappealing, I think it's pretty neat and I'd love to see one once produced, if at all.

Yes, Lionel started issuing SKU's in the new format late last year and the new SKU's are assigned to new projects as they are conceived.  Right now it appears that we're in a transition phase as some long ago conceived products are announced with the old SKU format and more recently conceived products are being issued with the new SKU format.

For confirmation, these products have the new SKU format:

Well, that old chestnut, again. And once again, whoever said that has no grasp of the fact that between the shallows of Scale Realism and the Great Abyss of the Sea of Silliness and Ugly, there is a lot of waist deep safe modeling that allows for reasonable departure from Gospel while still maintaining some grip on reality.

In other words, modeling-making-do when you have to is fine, but making a thing that is so absurd is not, and even downright misleading if viewed in public.

I have a RK 49'er 4-6-2 - nice model, high-end RK, I like it. I'm not a UP guy, and the paint scheme is, shall we say, busy, but it works on these Pacifics (the Mountains were cool, too). Art Deco gone wild. The Lionel 4-6-6-4 presentation is so bad, so egregious, that it actually makes their "Daylight" articulateds look...no, "good" is not possible, but, at least, somewhat graphically logical.

Before the catalogue disappeared, I noticed that Lionel is bringing back 2 of the best things that they ever did: the USRA 2-6-6-2 and the USRA Light Mountain. All of them that I glimpsed (I wasn't there long) were reasonably "fantasy-schemed" (the RR's had 2-6-6-2's or 4-8-2's, but perhaps not these exact prototypes; nothing wrong with practical tooling reuse if done rationally).

Do you know the reason for the format change? I always assumed that once they ran out of the 6- 5 digit numbers they'd just go into 6 digits.
