A friend got a cab ride in an UP engine, now wants one to put on his desk at his office (he is a  Sheriff) He said it was a UP GE AC45CCTE. Not finding much info about that model, Has anyone made one in UP colors? I could use a catalog number. It can be from any manufacturer and even a dummy unit since it's just going to sit

My understanding is that "AC45CCTE" is not a General Electric designation, but rather a Union Pacific designation for some ES44AC diesels - in fact a very large number of them from road number 5248 upwards. So it seems your friend was riding in an ES44AC that UP has simply designated an AC45CCTE for its own purposes.

There's a list of UP's locos of this designation here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.n...x?mid=931&Page=1

The upshot is that a model of a UP ES44AC diesel is of what UP calls an AC45CCTE.

If I remember correctly, "AC45CCTE" designates a slight horsepower enhancement and "controlled tractive effort" software for better operation as distributed power units. I think these features and this designation were first applied to UP's later production General Electric AC4400 models and were carried over to the ES44 series when UP acquired those.

The MTH ES44AC model does have the AC45CCTE stencil on the cab.

How about that, I learned something new today.

There's no horsepower bump from a standard ES44. Its a '45' to differentiate the model from the AC4400's that they called 'AC44CCTE'.
