Forumites-

We are looking to jazz up building names for our warehouses and have developed a scalable font specifically for Westinghouse Electric based upon historical photographs. The idea is that the individual letters will be attached to a frame, offset slightly to enhance the illusion of depth. We are happy with the straight-on view, but need help with what the actual structural framing would have looked like.

What you are looking at is the main sign frame piece laser cut as a single piece in .060" acrylic plastic. "CO" has been raised outward by nominally .030" and then slightly larger .060" thick letters have been placed on top. The idea here is that the frame will be painted one color, say black or a dark bronze, and the building name letters would then be painted another color. In this case they will be Westinghouse blue.

And yes, we will be able to offer this as a service in the future......

We already sell letter sets. The letters are thin-profile and are designed to be applied directly to a flat surface. Several buyers have actually used them for masking. Check out the website for what is currently available.

I am heading in the direction of offering kits. Look for us participating with Harry Henning's Facebook page "OGR Tips and Tricks". A trackside warehouse will be offered with a couple of new twists.

The Westinghouse Electric billboard is slightly different in that horizontal bars include the silhouette of the letters that will be applied on top. For Westinghouse, we actually did some historic research to create a font that was as close as possible to that found on their actual buildings. Our design allows production flexibility, ease of assembly and ability to work in several colors without excessive masking or brush painting. Once we are happy with the process and materials, we plan to offer it in kit form. You will tell us what building name you want to use and we'll custom create the parts. Names like "Westinhouse Electric Co." will be standard stock items.

No specific Westinghouse building as of yet, although their were a couple of nice warehouse candidates that we saw. I would be most interested in the one in Newark, NJ that was adjacent to the DL&W/Erie-Lackawanna station.

The building name billboard is designed to fit on top of our warehouse shadowboxes. The overall length of the billboard is about 20" and a two-piece set of our shadowboxes is 24".
