I just picked up a MARX # 4000 powered 2 wheel drive FM diesel and although the motor runs it sit's there spinning it's wheels on the track and won't move unless I push it or put my hand on the back of it for weight. I've been told by a friend that I'm lucky the motor even runs as these 2 wheel drive engines were among the worst ever made by MARX. Thinking about adding a weight somehow or see if I can find a 4 wheel powered motor ( from Grossman if he has one)  as there were 2 different powered versions on this particular engine. Curious if anyone else has had this problem or any opinions on what I'm thinking about doing to cure this problem. Running or not I still love my MARX trains.

Need to do the obvious and make sure the drivers are clean with no oily residue on them, also make sure the front wheels are turning freely. Next look to see if any part of the shell is dragging. Then make sure the collector has not been messed with. Make sure it has a bout 3/16" up and down movement. Those short collectors get messed up easily. If all looks right, add some stick on weights up inside the shell.

Thank You both for responses back. I have cleaned the wheels with my dremel wire wheel attachment, used contact cleaner on the wheels and I added 5 small lathe cutting tools for weight and it will move now but runs so so and has one spot on the track that it stops dead everytime although my other engines don't have a problem at that spot. I have been tweaking the pick up shoe a little but I will check it to make sure it has 3/16 of an inch travel. Guess I should have stuck to my steam engines which run terrific.
