I have a MPC 9162 caboose whose light only works on and off, mostly off. The roller on the truck is very loose but not sure how to fix it. Is it fixable or do I need to put a new truck on it. The roller wiggles back and forth and I can pull it way out. It was hitting the metal part of the truck and causing a short and shutting down the transformer. I wrapped electrical tape around the area causing the short and its goes ok but no light. Any suggestions as what I can do? Thanks in advance.

These will always flicker to some degree - some much worse. I copied what Lionel LLC finally did on their starter sets and added another 9050-150 collector assembly to the other truck.
Sources HERE. They fit just about all plastic post-1969 trucks.
When you get the new one(they snap in) reform the copper spring strip on the old one to match to cure your current problem. They do get distorted or malformed sometimes.
As Rob has stated, put a extra pickup assembly on your caboose. If I was you, I would replace your existing pick up assembly also.
