I just purchased the MTH explorer hoping to use with my Rail King 30-1657-1e on my 4x9 layout. I'm using a Lionel PH-1 135W supply to power the explorer as I only own Lionel transformers. I have the cw-40, LIONEL 71-4003-250 POWERHOUSE 80 POWER SUPPY or a KW so I'm hoping this isn't the issue. I've tried using the MTH and Home as network with the most recent MTH app which connects on both but when I try to add my engine it never works. I've tried all of my transformers as a supply and using an 0-36 circle of 8 pieces of fastrack just to add the engine. The explorer boots and connects to my phone or tablet and then applies track power to the train (purple light) and nothing happens. My train runs fine conventional but I get zero response with the explorer.  I opened the tender and there is a jumper in place on the board which I believe puts it in DCS mode although there's no markings on the PCB to verify that. I'm going to try it on 2 pieces of track next but I'm wondering what the problem could be. It sucks because I live in Canada with no train stores anywhere here for O gauge and I bought this unit from Train World online in NY.20240224_11194020240224_11173220240224_111527

I'm giving up on it. It's way too frustrating and obviously there's no MTH support anymore for anything. I'll send the Explorer back for a refund and probably sell the Steam Train since I can't use it for its PS3 features. Was really hoping for a train setup I could use wirelessly without having to spend thousands. This hobby is frustrating and way too expensive. No wonder it's dieing off.

That is a filter to help boost DCS signal, but obviously isn't helping either. Ive tried almost everything I can think of with and without the filter. There was lots of discussion on these filters in previous threads. Here is the explanation of it.

From Susan's Train Room:

Also thanks for the replies everyone, I do appreciate it. Mr. P I may look into DCC with this train before I totally give up. This Blunami stuff seems really cool to me anyway. They just need better android support which is really close now I believe.

On my newer phones, that app wouldn't show up when searched in the play store. I too went to an older device, and while logged in to my Google account on older device which is same account as new device, searched and installed the app on the older device.

Next, I went back to newer device and the app shows up during a search but says it isn't compatible with newer OS, but it installed and did work.

I don't have the explorer, I do have the wiu, which uses the same app. You may have noticed during initial launch of app that it asked which device to select. At least it did for me.

I can't imagine your transformer being the issue.

I do know some have issues with one phone not working with the wiu, but another(their wife's) phone will. General I gather that's mostly with iPhone, but perhaps it's an issue with certain android products?

I have a variety of older android phones handy to try just such things.

I wish you weren't having this problem, it shouldn't be this hard.

Why is the date 2020? Shouldn’t it reflect the current time and date? And why is 31% of available memory used up?

What am I missing here?

Shows firmware is 1.3, but MTH says current firmware is 1.2. when downloading the firmware, 1.2 is in the name.

I imagine MTH updated that page as it shows the most current iPhone app version and release date.

I know, the sticker on the bottom of the unit says V1.0 but in Luci that's a direct picture from my phone of my computer screen when connected.  I can tell you it was bought from Train World brand new in sealed box and arrived on Friday. I thought I'd have to download the latest  firmware too but saw 1.3 and MTH website has 1.2 and the link doesn't work for me either to download. I'm also confused which is why I'm here.

🤷‍♂️

I think @Rod M. is on to something here. I booted up my Explorer and on the login page, the firmware revision is displayed. Even though mine has the 1.0 sticker on the bottom I have updated it to 1.2. See below:

As far as I know, there is no version 1.3 firmware for the Explorer yet so based on what I see Roddrex's Explorer may be still on an older version. Kind of hard to believe that a NIB explorer from a good dealer would have the old firmware on it. The Explorers were restocked at dealers about a year ago and you'd think that they would load the latest firmware before boxing them up!

You can download the version 1.2 firmware here: DCS Explorer Firmware 1.2

If the Explorer has no internet connection (MTH Mode), it can't connect to an NTP server and update its own time. There is no RTC or battery inside for the system to remember the current time either. Don't worry about the memory, that's normal.

Well after several attempts, I got frustrated and clicked the upload button several times in Luci and the program finally sent the firmware to the unit. I waited several minutes after the unit rebooted and just came back with a power light. The manual says Luci will not refresh when uploaded so wait a minimum of 3 minutes before rebooting. I waited at least 10 minutes, rebooted the unit and now only the power light is on and the WPS light is on very faintly. It no longer broadcasts a signal. I got a complete dud I think and I'm sending it in for return/refund. Haven't decided which one yet due to this horrible experience.
