I have an MTH transfer diesel engine item no 20-2302-1 with proto-sound 2.0 I run it conventionally with a Lionel ZW and Lionel ZWL .when powered up every works except the sounds. When I turn the power off from the transformer the sounds come on for a few seconds. It’s being powered by the battery. Any idea what the problem is
It could be a couple of things that I've seen.
make sure the volume pot is turned up.
it needs a good battery.
It may also need to be reset if the sound is muted. Sometimes an engine stays silent after running a track signal test for example.
If inside, inspect the speaker for any flaking at the magnet.
