I was reading this post about specific crew announcements:

You all know I have had a fair amount of issues and posted complaints. So I should also post praise where due.

I have noticed many continuously improved sounds in the PS3 sound releases. From better horns and whistles, improved steam sounds, to even the crew talk.

It started some time ago with the use of better speakers in most engines.

I made a video the other day of my Dreyfus Hudsons and they sounded much more realistic and had clear crisp sounds to me. I am very satisfied with the sounds overall. I don't wish to go hunting for the latest, greatest, DCC release to get the best, only to learn of each decoder's faults or limitations. It's great that MTH is making strides towards constantly improving their releases.

So,.......... Thank you MTH!!!!!! Good job.

I remain a DCS user.

Joe, what train do the announcements say it is? Is it the 20th Century or Commodore Vanderbilt or some other. I ask because some of the passenger sets offered at the same time as these engines came with a Commodore Vanderbilt drumhead. The later CV ran these cars as well.

20th Century Limited at ten seconds in of the video

I really have to check the rest of the softkeys to see what else they sound like. I spent so much time fighting problems I have to get back to running and having fun with them.

I love MTH myself, but they always manage to mess up Amtrak sound sets somehow. The newest Genesis release has the Phase IVb units making station announcements for trains normally led by P32AC-DMs. This is due to the units originally being advertised with P32AC-DM numbers, but enough people complained about it being a re-skinned P42DC that the units were renumbered from 700 series to 99 and 202. Guess you can change a number but not a sound set. Another goof is the Coast Starlight sound set. The Coast Starlight runs from Seattle to Los Angeles, but no further. The sound set has it go all the way to San Diego. Do your research people!
