I recently came into possession of a MTH PRR "Transfer Diesel" with PS 2. I am really surprised how well detailed the engine is but keep wondering - Why is it called a "TransferDiesel".
In researching the prototype, it appears PRR was almost the only railroad using them. Were they designed just for PRR or they the only ones who liked them?
I also wonder how well they sold for MTH considering so few RR's used them?
What are your thoughts?

Eric's Trains did a review that talks about the history of the real thing. I can't imagine MTH made much money on them. As many locomotives as there are that we're told wouldn't offset tooling costs I'm not surehow this one made the list.
Santa Fe, Soo Line, EJ&E, Cotton Belt, DSS&A , MN&S, Trona Railway, and Pennsylvania had them. They were designed to move cars between yards They were actually a pretty good seller for MTH because they were so different MTH did them in soo, pennsy, santa Fe and EJ&E. They were reintroduced a couple of times
