The Lackawanna is among my favorite railroads, having grown up in New Jersey. I started looking for the same engines a number of years ago but finally gave up a couple of years back. The first issue is that I do not believe that MTH manufactured very many of these sets, as the Lackawanna is not nearly as popular as other railroads like the PRR, NYC, Santa Fe, etc. I have never seen this set at any of the many train meets or shows I have attended over the years and could not find it with any dealer, after making many calls, even those who tend to still have a lot of old new stock in Proto 2 engines. I have also never seen one of these sets available on eBay. Unfortunately, I think you are going to have to be extremely lucky to find this set.

Pat,

Thanks for the response and the information.  I have been on this type of treasure hunt before in an ongoing search for some MTH Premier GM&O Madison passenger cars that I would like to integrate into my K Line Chicago and Alton transition period "Alton Limited" passenger train.  The cars exist as I have seen photos, but as you point out, extremely rare.

My search for the Lakawanna E-8 engines is the result of collecting the "Phoebe Snow" K Line aluminum streamline cars (with the exception of the baggage) and the the full set of K Line Phoebe Snow Madisons.

As it is my goal to model only the Lackawanna version of the train, I have decided not to buy the Erie Lackawanna diesels that will soon be available.  Additionally, I have been watching the Lionel 6-84068 Legacy steam locomotive and waiting for a sufficient price reduction to buy it as a possible substitute for the E-8s.  Currently, I run the "Phoebe Snow" cars behind a nicely weathered MTH Premier Nickel Plate Berk and plan to find three or four Nickel Plate streamline cars to add to the consist - creating a version of the Nickel Plate Limited.
