Hello everybody,

I compared the Railking operating log cars and dump cars from the latest catalog with the Premier versions of the same cars from an earlier book, and they have the same measurements. I know this could be a typo, but if they are the same dimensions what are the differences between the 2 versions? Its my understanding the Railking line doesn't have for the lack of a better way of putting it a "uniform scale" to go buy. The reason I'm asking is that I am interested in the BNSF dump car and am wondering how it would look with scale cars. Thank you, any info would be appreciated.

I believe the same tooling is used for both the MTH Rail King and Premier operating dump cars.  While the underside of the car has extra bulk to conceal the mechanism it is a pretty good scale model of a Difco prototype.  Like some of the other cars in the Railking line they will look realistically proportioned next to 1/48 scale equipment in the MTH Premier line or from other makers.

If you are interested in scale maintenance of way equipment keep an eye on the O Scale Freight Car Guide series.  In a new installment later this year we will take a look at the scale MOW equipment available in O today.  The MTH dump car will be included.
