Some model railroaders make up their own railroad for their layout but I never have . . . I'm not sure why, it certainly seems like  fun.  It has been so far!

Anyway, I recently I made up the Canon City, Blanca, and Glen Canyon Railroad for a fiction book I am working on.  As I have made it up, it is a standard-gauge regional railroad that got its start in the late 19th century moving coal from the fields in south central Colorado up to Pueblo and expanded as far west as Glen Canyon and south to Santa Fe.  I converted my new 765 to the CCB&GC livery earlier in the week, played with details of font size, decoration and such until I got it right, and decided to do more locos today.

Anyway, being where is was, the CCB&GC would have had mostly mountain routes and so it would have put an emphasis on medium- and small-driver locos rather than outright speed.  I converted one caboose and four Legacy locos: a 2-10-4 T1, the 765 Berkshire, a 0-8-0, and a 0-8-8-0 CC2.  I especially like the Berkshire-Texas pair - both handsome locos and so obviously siblings, the bigger Texas is a truly impressive locomotive, too. One converted locos is nice, but four together look fantastic. I'm not going to convert all my locos - the CCB&GC will have to share the tracks on my layout with UP, ATSF, and D&RG, although I am thinking about having the CCG&GC acquire either an Allegheny or an H7.

A close family friend C. Gregory Crampton was hired by the government to do a comprehensive study of the canyon before it was filled in by Lake Powell. "Uncle Greg" wrote a book about the history of the canyon along with amazing photos. The book is Ghosts of Glen Canyon and I thought you might enjoy the information in there. http://www.amazon.com/Ghosts-G...eneath/dp/0874809460

P.S. My dad actually has an old sluice box sitting in the garage that was found at the bottom of Glen Canyon. Pretty cool.
