N&W Aux Water Tender Lashup

If you make them both #18, then both rear couplers would fire when you hit the button. Both backup lights would come on.

You can add a switch to your existing tender to enable/disable the coupler and backup light, that way you could address them the same without issues.  When you turn the switch on, the tender lights/coupler work, when it's off, they're disabled and the aux tender would still have the lights/coupler.  Simple mod.

Is the engine Legacy?  If it's TMCC I'm not sure what the issue is as I use one with my TMCC J without a problem.

Thank you. Great idea, that's what I was looking for. I never run the 1218 w/o the aux water tender anyway.

A DP switch will interrupt the light and the coupler.  Find a spot on the tender frame for it and cut a hole.
