Need better Warm White LEDs

You might also look for amber or yellow LED's, they'll be closer to incandescent colors.

I have been wanting some 1445 bayonet base LED bulbs for easy replacement in some passenger cars. The ones I have found are usually too dim even at 18vac and also too white. I bought some warm white ones from Town and Country Hobbies but they are too weak from the side. Pretty bright out the top of the bulb, but that doesn't light up the silhouettes in the windows much.  The too white ones are somewhat frosted, but still not so great to the side.

Any one know of a plug in bulb that has the LEDs mounted sideways?

For the warm LED's  I would get them from Evans Designs, forum sponser..

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think this is going to be trial and error until I am happy with the color.

I have never tried it but some folks have reported coloring them with a yellow sharpie (and maybe other colors?). I believe they were talking about the strip LEDs, but it might be worth a try on yours just to see what it looks like?

You need to buy a bunch from different sources to see what works for you.  That's why my LED assortment looks like this.

I don't see any green in my warm-white LED's, don't know what you're looking at.

That's a Fluke above the engine in the last picture; just easier to move around. A farm employee who retired from Kodak gave me two of the Tripletts. They never disagree with the Fluke!

I bought some from China, and I think they're great.  But, it's in the eye of the beholder.  You can email me at somc49@hotmail.com.  I can send you a few ( 4?) And pay me $2.00 for them if you like them.

 I had a Simpson something that the company I worked for gave me when they went to all digital meters many years ago. They were going to discard them. I later gave it away a few years after that. Got an analog Amprobe out of the same deal, it went the way of the Simpson. Now I wish I would have kept them both.  

The best warm white LED that you can buy are from TCS who does DCC , The LEDs are True "light golden Yellow." Any hobby shop can order them.

Obviously, a matter of opinion.   Since they just buy commercial LED's, I'm sure you can get them elsewhere.  I also doubt that the whole universe of LED's was sampled to make this pronouncement.
