IMG_0113IMG_0112I have a mth railking CTA 6200 series subway set proto 2 with a broken powered truck gear. In the photo, one of the small side gears has a missing tooth. This causes the gear to get stuck and jams the whole truck up and keeps it from spinning.  Mth parts website has no listing for individual gears and unfortunately cannot find a replacement truck for it either.

im thinking probably of trying to pry that gear off and than use it as a 1/2 powered truck (both front and rear trucks on this are powered). So I’m thinking having 1.5 powered trucks is sufficient for a 4 car set.  I’ll just have 6 wheel drive instead of 8.

unless there are an other ideas

Here's the catch22.

If you make one truck one axle drive by removing the broken gear, if that truck is the one with the motor and the tachometer- then it has less traction and will go into wheel slip easier. the kicker again, is if that is the tachometer motor going into wheel slip, it then determines the power for the second motor- in theory now one with both axles driven and less likely to slip.

In other words, you would stall out and be prone to stalling out.

If you do what you are proposing, you need the stronger traction truck (all wheels driven) on the motor with the tach to prevent this stalled out slipping situation where the tachometer is not seeing the true load of the engine.

I have had this happen with the Lionel subway trains as well. I chalk it up to lack of lubrication sometimes. In the Lionel subway train issue I just replaced the trucks at Lionel. They are $25 apiece. If they are available from MTH, it would be much easier just to swap them out.
