No sure if this is the right area to ask for help, but I'm rebuilding my layout and am experimenting with running several engines at the same time.  I have a traditional transformer hookup running at present running a traditional engine.  I am also running a couple of other engines Lionel Chief Plus using the remotes.  No problem.  All seems to be working well.  I recently bought a new  MTH PS3 engine which I have switched to traditional mode and it runs fine, but I'm thinking of using the DCS Remote Commander #50-1033 to run this engine instead.

My questions.  I see that the Remote Commander is supposed to be attached to the track using a power block through the transmitter to the tracks.  I'm using Lionel FasTrack.  I've already got power to the track so do I need to hook up the power block also or can I just attach the transmitter to the track and then be able to use the control.  I don't have the control yet so I don't know if this will work.  I'm hoping someone here has had a similar hookup and can explain the use of the Remote Commander with this environment.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Actually, you can simply connect the DCS Remote Commander receiver to the powered tracks using the output, that's passive mode connection.  No need to run the power through the IR receiver.

Just connect the two output posts to the track, red to the center rail, black to the outside rails, and you're good to go.  I do this for testing that repairs will run with this unit.

This Man is correct. I tried this a couple weeks ago and it works great! Just curious what did you switch on your PS3 engine to run in "traditional mode"? This should not require anything to be switched at all. It should work both ways.

Thanks for the help. I'll give that passive mode a try when I get the remote.  When I got the math engine it said it could be run on conventional set up, so I tried it out of the box with no luck.  I changed the mode switch on the bottom of the engine and it then worked fine. Thanks again.  I'll follow with progress.

I know this is a couple days late, but you should not need to throw any switches to go from DCS operation to conventional operation. With a PS2 or 3 engine on a conventionally powered track, when you add power it takes anywhere from 10-20 seconds for the engine to start up. Usually the cab light comes on first and the sound is a couple seconds behind.
