I am in the planning stages to add a double track deck girder bridge to my Pennsy Middle Division. The

track plan calls for a main line crossover in the area I am planning for the bridge. Not prototypical for sure,

but it will look great and create a real focal point for the layout.

My idea was to have the bridge as a deck girder configuration to avoid having it act as a view block to the background scenery, a small town main street. The overall length of the space is 54" and 19" of depth. The actual length of the bridge can vary from 38"-48". Because the crossover is on the main line, I thought that using either RCS #6's or Atlas #5's would be the best choice for the turnouts. Track spacing is 4 1/2"

I'm hoping forum members will offer their insights/expertise on how best to do this project. My initial idea was to use the new Ross deck girder system Steve is now offering. Will the double track bridge deck allow for a crossover? Will the switch machines fit? The photo from York shows a single track box tower support, Will Ross make a double track box tower support? I have also toyed with the idea of doing a kit bash/scratch build using Plastruct components for the box towers and possibly the deck with either Scenic Express girder bridge plates or the ones from Atlas in their bridge kit. My biggest concern with this approach is my modeling skill level will likely limit the final appearance of the bridge. The final thought was to have the bridge custom built by one of the incredibly talented groups who do this work. Any thoughts as to cost?

Thank you for taking time to look this over, I look forward to your imput.

PRR Mike,

I'm not sure if this will work, last time I tried, it didn't. Anyway, these are pics of two bridges I made. The second is an open deck plate girder bridge. It's made from steel, but can be done in brass as well.If this link doesn't work, I may be able to e mail it to you As far as the width specs for a cross over, you may want to ask Steve from Ross Custom. He's a member.
