Just got the darn thing two months ago.  Lights starting blinking meaning there was problem someplace.  reset per instructions. Today, all control is lost....starts up without putting in number...no horn, or moving operating....smokes ok....but no control from cab2.  Any hints what can be done?????

Really sounds like Lionel's warranty department is gonna be VERY busy with all the problem cases from high-end locomotives shipped the past few months.  Very sad, but your GG1 might be looking at a return trip to NC and back... unless somebody has a quick answer for you here.

All this harsh reality has gotta be taking its toll on the enthusiasm and excitement built up from the 2017 Signature Catalog.  It's really amazing anybody pre-orders anything anymore.

David,

The answer is "send it back to Lionel for new one or a full refund..!!"

I have seen two that people opened and did not put the insulating bushings back on the body mounting posts.  Remember guys/gals the body on the new G motor is your antenna.   Here is an easy check to see if your antenna (body) is grounding out.

Set your meter to continuity and touch metal on the body with one probe and the chassis with the other probe.  If you have continuity, issue solved.  Next you need to pull the body and find out where you lost your insulating components.

I did not order one for another reason, TOO MUCH MONEY!

So you can just send a loco back to Lionel and they'll give you your money back or a brand new one? Why do I find that so hard to believe?

Because it's not that easily done. I just went through this ordeal with Lionel.

In the end they finally got things right. It was a long bumpy road lol

Gentlemen,  Thank you all for your comments!  I found the problem......it was a wire from the contact to the legacy unit broke.  When one of you mentioned that legacy didn't pick up the signal...I found the broken wire.  Turns out...everytime I started the transformer I was in conventional mode and didn't realize it.

Thanks again...
