HI, I just acquired some Lionel Series 150 trains. Looks like I have one of each, except the 156 (would like one of those) I have a few questions as I am reading, watching and learning.

Why do some some engines have wire railings and some are stamped? (I assumed age, but then I have a 153 of each type?)

I need to buy motor parts - I would say at least 2 armatures, so far. But I cant find the model number for them. I see brushes and brush holders (at least two diff styles for humpback motors) for sale.

I have some track, with switches and crossings and bumpers. However I would rather buy unused 'new' 3 rail o gauge track. I have seen 'new' Lionel, MTH, and Menards. Will all these interchange and are any still being made that look like the prewar track? So not the fast track stuff. Which is the best? should one brand cost more than the other due to rarity or quality (I know thats subjective)

I would like to build a simple track that only has pre 1930s stuff, but reproduction track seems the way to go - to just have it work.

One Engine has wheels with corrosion cracking - I assume it would be smart to not run those. I have seen the red spoke wheels for sale.

I dont plan on running them a lot - but do want them to run.

Thats a lot for now.

Thanks
