Excuse my ignorance, I'm not a Standard gauge guy. My father has the original Standard gauge Blue Comet that MTH made for Lionel , I believe it was back in the early 90's? maybe late 80"s?    Engine, 3 cars, plus add-on car.

I'd like to look into getting him a modern "Lionel" (by MTH) with PS2 Blue Comet. My question is how does the "new" ps2 version look pulling the 1990's cars? does the paint match?

Looking at the MTH online catalog. The Blue Comet in the online catalog doesn't look like the same shade of blue that I remember seeing on the 1990's cars. Am I wrong?

Do you know of any dealers with the Engine available?

Thanks for your help.

There is no one color for Blue Comets from the 30s. The Brass trim engine and cars were darker in color than the Nickel trim engine and cars.

I would not trade the Lionel Classic set for a PS-2 Blue Comet. There is the argument it is made by Korean brass and not a China product. It is said the Pittman motor in your set is better than the China motor.

There are 3 distinct colors from the originals, and many minor variations.  Blue colors "walk" all over the place and were affected by environmental conditions when drying.  Typically, the cars in sets matched perfectly.  Late in the game, the last hurrah so to speak, there are some mixed colors like they were clearing the shelves in the warehouse, but the trim was always consistent in the sets.
