Great pictures of days gone by. How old are those? I would love to have gone to New York City when people REALLY decorated for the holidays.  I remember back when my folks would take us kids to downtown Chicago to see all the windows in the big stores decorated with Lionel trains and a myriad of animations. We would spend what seemed like hours in the cold staring at them before heading inside and up the escalators to the toy department and get a chance to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what we wanted for Christmas.  These days Fields and Carson's and Montgomery Ward's and Wiebolt's are long gone and the windows at Macy's are a poor excuse for decorations.

Most of these photos were taken within the last 5-10 years. We started doing the Toy Train Walking Tour with my kids about 23 years ago during the Holiday Season when Clarke Dunham created the wonderful display known as the Station at Citicorp Center on 53rd St. and 3rd Ave. which required some walking from the location of Macy's. We soon filled the space in between with the other stops on the walking tour.

Our family takes an annual trip  to anywhere at Thanksgiving.  Usually somewhere warm.  We all put in a suggestion and then the destinations come up for a vote .  We always stay in an airbnb so we can walk the city and get a local's view. This year it's mobile Alabama.   Based on the above pictures, I will be suggesting new York city for 2020.
