It's not new news, but I'm not sure it's a variable people give enough weight to. Labor costs and regulations get a lot of attention... those two items may have been primary reasons why mfg went overseas, but they're not necessarily the reason it's not coming back to the US (according to the article).

The jist of the article is that even if Steve Jobs wanted to make the Iphone in the US, he realistically couldn't... all the materials, suppliers, facilities, distribution networks, end even engineers aren't here to do it.

The same could of course be said for a lot of the trains we buy.

If this wasn't new news to you, why did you start the thread "what would it cost...?" You must've already realized it was less of a question of "how much" but more so just "how"?

Well... if Steve Jobs wants to build IPhones in the USA... that would be a MIRACLE of the highest order: He's deceased.

Speaking of China mfg in general:

Yesterday there was an interesting thread with input from some that had dealings with China mfg. Very insightful. Was looking forward to reading up on it after I returned from work yesterday. BUT...

Couldn't find it? It's gone? Poof? Vaporized? Or am I just overlooking it? (Can't remember the thread title, now.)

If gone, guess another interesting thread went down the crapper.

If so, well hey... that's life in the fast lane here at OGR forums!!

EDIT:

After posting the above I saw the post "APOLOGY" in where a fella' indicates the thread turned into an opinionated rant while I was away. Shucks... it was a good'un when I left it.
