Hey everyone!

Just thought I would start a fun thread on here. I was running my trains today and was trying to decide what some of the buildings will be on my layout. I already have the MTH passenger Station and the MTH Pennsy Engine House (Single Stall).

So I am wondering what are your favorite buildings on your layout and why? Pictures are welcome!

Thanks!

Wow thanks for the pictures so far everyone!

Cesar I love the graffiti on the switch tower. It looks very realistic.

Mr. Muffin, that pottery factory looks very nice! Is it a kit? The stone on the outside looks real!

Keith, I like how you were able to change that into a passenger station. Looks very cool and it definitely worked out for you!

Alan, that is one colossal building! Is that a kit? It must be because it is huge! It definitely gives a big city feel to any layout. Especially with the passenger terminals you have next to it.

The granary really makes the scenery complete.

Thanks, Mike.

The water is clear silicone caulking. I squeeze out parallel beads of caulk along the length of the stream. Then smooth it out with a small stick. You can also "whip" it up a little with the stick to get a whitish frothy look for rapids.

At the bottom of waterfalls, I add a few wisps of cotton or polyfiber to represent spray.

Wow those are some great buildings Alex! I love the old school gas stations. They have a different look to them than anything out there today. Too bad most of them if not all of them are long gone.

Who makes the kits to build these?

Hi Mike I make them they are total scratch built

Wow great buildings guys!

Alex thanks for the thread url. How long did it take for you to build all three?

Jack, I love that building too! Very old school. Makes me think of a 1940s New York City.

Gary, haha that worker better find them fast cause the trashman will be there soon!

Rich, that looks great! I like the passing shot. Really emphasizes a new with an old.

Ok, well I guess I will add a few. None of these are "builds" per se, but mods on MTH & Walthers buildings, but my favorites none the less:

Walther's Building, which is now the Nickel Plate Cafe:  Nickel Plate Cafe 1

and the interior:

Nickel Plate Cafe 3

This is an MTH Dry Goods warehouse I painted:

Nickel Plate Freight House 1

This is the best shot I have of my interpretation on the MTH Grainery building, which I have used as a local business:

Captain America
