I guess it's like how football and baseball, and wrestling and boxing are very male dominated but girls and women play a lot of tennis and softball. Hobbies tended to be gender specific. Boys liked model trains like Lionel, and girls liked dolls and dollhouses. Women liked to sew and quilt, and men liked to build things like model cars, ships, etc. and model railroad. I like to play video games and video gaming was very male dominated.
